WHAT CAN YOU DO WHEN YOU HAVE A SIMILAR IDEA FOR AN INVENTION SOMEONE ELSE ALREADY HAS?

Ok I came with an idea that i though was amazing, but come to find out there is already a company out there selling them. Although I wanted to make the product different then they way they are, am I still able to do something like that if they already have it trademarked and patent?
