Is "So do this: learn to be ignorant and obey the Lord thy God." proof of a Poe attempt? or do some advocate..?

Historically thumpers have been against logic, science and thinking too much.I mean, literally, in their own words. It's probably a Poe b/c these days, thumpers tend to not be so openly against thinking or to hold up ignorance as a virtue(and that wouldn't just be for Christians. Any group with a dogma doesn't want you threatening that dogma with your own independent thinking) but historically, yeah, thumpers v. thinking.
