Atheists, do you think Society should spend vast amounts of money on exploring our Solar System?

I'm an atheist as well and first of all i don't see how being an atheist and condoning space travel are related? seems quite silly. We need to explore space, as this is what humans do we strive to understand the unknown, not to mention all the great technology that has come along because of space travel, such as water filters, cordless tools, long-distance telecommunications, shoe insoles, ear thermometers, memory foam and many others. Not to mention good ole' Tang.
